Cornwall & Christmas

Although this is supposed to be a blog about sewing lately not much sewing has been blogged about.  I have been sewing but don’t seem to have actually finished anything!

So instead I thought I would show you  some pictures of Cornwall.  We spent last week enjoying a relaxing short break in Cornwall.  We were lucky to have wonderful warm sunny weather, amazing for the time of year.

We stayed closed to Trago Mills, if you have never been to a Trago Mills store ( I think there are 3 in Devon/ Cornwall) its a very strange sort of bargain shop and some of the things they sell are of questionable taste, but the fabric department is pretty good with a good range of Christmas fabric.

I bought a selection, its polycotton, so not expensive, but I think its good enough for what I have in mind.

I have made a start on my Christmas sewing projects, I am trying really hard to be organised this year and not be sewing presents at the last minute.

Can you guess what its going to be?

Sightseeing and Shopping

Last week (so slow posting this its now the week before last) we spent a few days on the North Wales/Shropshire border. We stayed a lovely little hotel, The Mulberry Inn at Llwynmawr, we had this beautiful view from our room.

A day trip to Chester and my first visit to Abakhan (fabric shop).  I have never seen fabric sold by weight before!!  My husband thinks I plan our holidays around locations where fabric shops can be found, I really don’t know where he gets these ideas from!!

I didn’t need any more fabric, but of course I just had to buy some, but I was very restrained and only bought these…

PENTAX DIGITAL CAMERAAnybody know about fabric shops like this in the South West?

Fabric shopping

Cake, Vouchers and John Lewis

A few weeks ago I reached a milestone, ten years  working for the same company, and I received this lovely cake………..

and vouchers for John Lewis, lots of vouchers from the directors of the company.

The nearest John Lewis is about 30 miles away and on Friday I finally got the chance to go shopping and of  course I headed straight to the Haberdashery and fashion fabric department, now being thrifty I don’t normally buy fabric from John Lewis, generally its sourced  via the  internet, charity shop finds and  Fabricland, and the like.

To my delight there was a sale on, a 50% off sale!! could my day get any better?

This is what I bought….

Tracing paper

Piping foot

Concealed zipper foot

Patchwork ruler

Denim chambray

Pink linen

Black and white polka dots 100% thick cotton

Floral Cotton

Navy and white stripe jersey

Black and white check

Red and black check

11 buttons (for current project)

and I still have vouchers left, so I can go shopping again!

Now what shall I make with this fabric?   Suggestions please!
